Emirate of Hebron???!!!
Five prominent sheikhs from Hebron, led by Sheikh Wadee’ al-Jaabari, have proposed establishing an independent “Emirate of Hebron.”
They are choosing to break away from the Palestinian Authority and join the Abraham Accords.
In a letter to Israeli officials, they pledged full recognition of Israel. Also, zero tolerance for terrorism, and a desire for peaceful coexistence.
The proposed Emirate of Hebron would function as a self-governing entity. Similar to the model of the United Arab Emirates. Local leadership would manage internal affairs.
The sheikhs envision this as a path to economic development, regional stability, and a new political framework for Palestinians in the “West Bank.”
EVIDENCE BEFORE THEIR EYES
Maybe the local Sheikhs understand Israel’s authority over Hebron because they regularly visit the Tombs of Avraham, Sarah, Yitzhak, Rivka, Yaakov (Yisrael) and Leah.
Burial of the dead on land has historically been a way to assert land ownership in Arab traditions.
In rural Palestinian communities, family burial plots on private land serve as a physical and spiritual claim to that land. Thus reinforcing generational ties and making displacement more difficult.
Hard for the Sheikhs to ignore the Jews buried here. Even if the plaques are only written in Hebrew and English (not Arabic).
