ShmuelIn Israel it’s late afternoon, and Memorial Day for Israel’s fallen soldiers is winding down.

It’s a very sad day in this country as virtually everyone either has their own friend or relative who died fighting for our country, or knows someone who lost a loved one. Israel is a very small place with a big heart.

A few minutes ago I walked past the local community center in Yavne’el where they were setting up for tonight’s Yom HaAtzmaut (Independence Day) celebrations.

Seeing the rows and rows of empty plastic chairs made me think about those fallen soldiers who wouldn’t be celebrating with their friends and relatives tonight.

Then, on second thought, I imagined that those holy souls who sacrificed their lives were most likely sitting in those chairs already… I just couldn’t see them… and that they will be with us here tonight to celebrate the miracle of the rebirth of the State of Israel with us.

Have a meaningful Yom HaAtzmaut!
