Yom Kipper is a time of ridding oneself of this past year’s sins and working on improving our characters. I have been thinking about the cleansing revolution. There are so many different kinds of cleanses out there for varying lengths of time claiming varieties of exciting promises.
Before Rosh Hashanah, I cleared out my garden which was overgrown with a tough strain of grass. This grass crept and suffocated beautiful delicate plants competing for water and sunlight. At times, it was tough job as many of the roots appeared in unexpected places. The approach I took was slow and careful watching to minimize potential damage. Like my garden, we all need a clearing, periodically, as we tend to clog our bodies with too much coffee, fats, sugars and process foods.
Heroic activities such as a 3 or 7 day cleanse may appeal to our mind, but can wreak havoc on our bodies. A quick fix is not the answer to reaching and maintaining overall health goals. Doing things in a steady and gentle manner makes more sense.
Firstly, check in with your body. If you are experiencing symptoms such as intermittent abdominal pain, indigestion, gas, constipation or nausea try this mild olive oil and lemon detox. Mix 1 cup of olive oil with 1 cup of lemon juice and take 2 tablespoons of the mixture three times a day, before each meal. You should expect to see results within five days. You can then make your next set of changes.
May we all be inscribed in the Book of Life for a year of Good Health and Joy.
