In the last week of July, North Carolina became the 22nd state with laws or executive orders to combat the “Boycott Israel” movement.
Governor Roy Cooper in Action
After Governor Roy Cooper signed Bill 161 into law, state agencies must now divest from, and are prohibited from doing business with companies that boycott Israel.
We shared the news on our Facebook page and got lots of likes and comments from our Galilee Green Family in North Carolina.
“This bill makes it clear that the State of North Carolina stands with Israel, which has long been an important trading partner of North Carolina,” said Carin Savel, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Raleigh-Cary as reported in the Jerusalem Post.
North Carolina businesses conduct nearly $140 million per year in exports and commerce with Israel. (I don’t think that includes all the Galilee Green Olive Oil we ship to our NC subscribers and customers LOL. We’re still under their radar)
Emily Sills, one of our earliest supporters mentioned that not only are NC and Israel close trading partners… but as the bird flies, North Carolina is the State physically closest to the land of Israel (see map above).
In addition to thanking the Governor publicly on our timeline, I sent the following personal message directly to Governor Cooper:
Dear Governor Cooper,
I am not a constituent of yours, however MANY of our customers are residents of North Carolina and strong supporters of Israel.
We produce extra virgin olive oil here in the Galilee and your constituents purchase it directly from us.
Yesterday we posted on our Facebook Page a “thank you” to you for signing the Anti BDS legistlation of Bill 161 into law.
We had a very positive response from all your constituents and they were all so pleased by your stand on this issue.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you personally on behalf of those of us living here in Israel.
