Alcohol is not the only culprit when it comes to cirrhosis of the liver
Drinking too many soft drinks, eating the wrong kinds of fats, being overweight, and eating foods that increase oxidants in our system can lead to an accumulation of fats in the liver.
This leads to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. If left untreated, continuing this diet and lifestyle can lead to fibrosis and ultimately cirrhosis of the liver.
A diet rich in extra virgin olive oil (even one or two tablespoons a day) decreases the accumulation of hepatic triglycerides in the liver and therefore can slow or stop the accumulation of fat in the liver.
