Cabbage is such a versatile vegetable.  It is great uncooked as a coleslaw, sauerkraut or cooked in your favorite soup, borscht or cabbage roll dish.

Here is a unique spin on cabbage that is so delicious you can hardly believe it.  In five minutes, you can prepare this side dish that is healthy and gluten and carb free.

New year\'s Eve cabbage 20141231

Ingredients:

  • 4 cabbage steaks
  • 2-3 cloves of minced garlic
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 2 Tablespoons of Galilee Green Olive Oil
  • Dried caraway, cilantro seeds, curry or dill optional

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 400F/200C
  • Cut 4 – 2 inch wide cabbage steaks and place on a greased baking pan
  • Rub minced garlic on all sides of the steaks
  • Generously shmeer (Yiddish for spread or lather) the steaks with Galilee Green Olive Oil
  • Sprinkle with salt and pepper
  • Add fun herbs
  • Bake for 30 minutes on each side
  • Edges should get nicely browned
  • Be careful not to burn the steak

Cabbage is an excellent source of vitamin C and a very good source of manganese.
