Most people love our Galilee Green olive oil because of its unique delicate flavor!
However our subscriber Cynthia Liora from Pomona CA posted this picture on her Facebook Wall with the following caption.
“Shabbat lights; pure Galilee Green olive oil as fuel. Shabbat Shalom from California!“
Immediately, her friends asked how they could do the same. Although most people today use wax candles for Shabbat lights, in ancient times many different types of oils would be used.
“…the Sages permit all [of the following] oils: Sesame oil, nut oil, radish [seed] oil, fish oil, gourd [seed] oil, tar, and naphtha. Rabbi Tarfon says: One should only light with olive oil.” Mishna, Shabbat 2:2
There are many people today who light their Shabbat lights with the best olive oil as recommended by Rabbi Tarfon because it produces the clearest flicker-free flame.
