Have you seen one of these beautiful caper bushes growing out of the cracks of the Western Wall?
Our dear friend Patrick Amar. one of Israel’s premier tour guides posted this beautiful picture and the following description:
“These plants grow out of the rocks of Israel. Their little green buds get pickled and served with smoked salmon. But if you let it flower it looks like this!
I remember Tzvi Sperber once told me that the caper bushes grow out of the Kotel and are like the Jewish people, if you rip them out they grow back twice as strong.”
The caper bush, known for its resilience and beauty, is a remarkable plant that thrives in the harshest conditions. Growing out of the ancient stones of the Western Wall, these bushes symbolize strength and perseverance, much like the history of the Jewish people. The caper bush’s ability to flourish in such an environment is a testament to nature’s incredible adaptability.
Capers, the edible flower buds of the caper bush, are a culinary delight. They are often pickled and used to enhance the flavors of various dishes, including salads, pasta, and fish. In fact, their tangy, slightly salty taste pairs wonderfully with smoked salmon, adding a burst of flavor that complements the rich, smoky fish.
By the way, Capers go great with our Garlic ‘n Olive Oil dip
So, after spreading the garlic and oil on your challah, add some capers… amazing!
This delightful combination not only enhances the flavor of your meal but also brings a touch of the Galilee’s rich culinary heritage to your table. Whether you’re enjoying a simple snack or preparing a gourmet dish, the addition of capers can elevate your culinary experience.
