When the children of dear old friends get married, we like to make the extra effort to celebrate with them if at all possible. So even though it was the evening before the festival of Shavuot, we made the two hour drive south from Yavne’el along the Jordan Valley to Mitzpe Yericho where the ceremony was held.

Mitzpe YerichaoMitzpe Yericho literally means “Jericho Observation Point” and it is a small Jewish Settlement overlooking the city of Jericho.

It is located in the the hills of the Judean desert on the descent from Jerusalem to the Jordan Valley and the northern end of the Dead Sea… and the views are breathtaking.

Since it is only about a 20 minute drive from Jerusalem it is a wonderful place for a wedding ceremony!

Here’s a short clip we took while waiting for the ceremony to begin. The bride’s brother and family were having their pictures taken near the Chuppah (wedding canopy) with “the view” behind them.

You can hear the guests singing in the background as they are with the groom as he is preparing to sign the Ketubah (the marriage contract) before the ceremony begins.
