We have a Hebrew blessing that we share with people celebrating their birthday.
“Ad Me’a V’esrim Shanah!”
“Until 120 years!”
That’s because Moses lived until 120, and the Torah considers that age the maximum in our current post-Noah era.
The oldest person in modern recorded history was Jeanne Louise Calment who lived to be 122 years old. (Some people contest her age. No one else has reached 120, although a few have reached 119, 118 and 117).
Calment died in 1997 in southern France, and when asked about her secrets to longevity, she said chocolate, port wine, and olive oil.
This isn’t surprising. Many centenarians that live in the world’s regions with the highest concentrations of people over 100 years old, regularly dine on red wine and olive oil.
In fact, extra virgin olive oil has been found to help manage weight, lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and help to lower risk of cardiovascular diseases.
(Incidentially, when you combine chocolate WITH extra virgin olive oil, you gain even more health benefits!)
