This recipe is from Tova Heller of Jerusalem, Israel.

My family has crossed paths with Tova many times since she made Aliyah five years ago. I first met her through her “vlog” about life in Israel. Since we were both helping connect people abroad with the Israel we loved, I reached out to see how we might work together.

A while later, she acted in a short film my son Eli produced and directed.

After her marriage to Betzalel, Tova became a neighbor to my daughter in her apartment building in Jerusalem. And then there’s the time Tova ran into the Netanyahu’s in Tiberias, and one of our Galilee Green Family, Mimi Maizlech snapped the photo!

For many new immigrants, the anniversary of the date they arrived in Israel becomes an annual celebration of personal thanksgiving. Here’s how Tova described her Aliyah Anniversary Shakshuka…

Celebrating 5 years in Israel this coming month and now being able to make a delicious Shakshuka makes me feel super extra Israeli! 😋😋

Tova’s Aliyah Anniversary Shakshuka

Ingredients

L-R: Tova, Sara Netanyahu, PM Netanyahu, Tova’s daughters

  • 2 tbsp Galilee Green olive oil (GGOO)
  • 3 diced bell peppers; red, yellow, green
  • 5 diced tomatoes
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 1 diced onion
  • 3 cloves of chopped garlic
  • 5 fresh mushrooms
  • 7 eggs
  • salt and paprika to taste

Directions:

  1. In olive oil, sautée the red, green and yellow bell peppers along with the red chili pepper
  2. Once soft, add in 1 diced onion and 3 cloves of chopped garlic
  3. Add in 5 fresh mushrooms
  4. Season the mixture with salt and paprika
  5. Once sautéed, add in 5 diced tomatoes. Mix up a bit and then cover
  6. Make spaces for the 7 eggs. Add in an egg to each space.
  7. Cover. Cook until the eggs are cooked to your liking. I cooked them through but others like them more runny.
  8. Enjoy!!

Thank you so much for sharing Tova… may you celebrate many more years with your family here in Eretz HaKodesh!

How do I contact you regarding my card. It has changed and I think my last payment may have been rejected depending on when it went through.
