I love trying new things in the kitchen. So this year as I preparing for Purim I decided to try baking crackers. I wanted to be sure that they were easy to make and at the same time have the right amount of flavor and crunch.
This batch truly met my expectations. Adding the SUPER FOOD ingredients gave them an added bonus. Flax seeds are an anti-oxidant with omega-3 and are an amazing source of fiber. Chia seed benefits include promoting healthy skin, reducing signs of aging, supporting the heart and digestive system, building stronger bones and muscles and more. And then there is of course the Galilee Green extra virgin olive oil with all its goodness and glory of benefiting heart, brain and mood health.
Making crackers is just plain fun!
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups white flour
- 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
- ⅔ cup flax seeds
- ⅓ cup chia seeds
- 1 teaspoon kimmel (caraway) seeds
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon ground dried hot pepper flakes
- ½ cup Galilee Green Olive Oil
- 1 cup water, or more as needed
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 400 F/200 C
- Mix flour, flax seeds, chia seeds, kimmel seeds, sesame seeds, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried hot pepper flakes together in a large bowl
- Add Galilee Green Olive Oil to the flour and seeds mixture with a pastry cutter until mixture becomes coarse crumbs
- Add the water and continue mixing with a fork until dough sticks together and pulls easily off the sides of the bowl
- Divide dough into 2 balls
- Place 1 ball between 2 sheets of parchment paper and roll out the dough as thin as possible
- Cut the dough into squares and place on a greased baking sheet
- Repeat with the second ball
- Bake for about 8 minutes until crackers are golden and crispy
- Cool completely on a wire rack
- Poking your crackers with a fork before cooking is optional
These crackers taste incredible with any topping. My favorites are Galilee Green Humus and Eggplant Salad. ENJOY!!
