Nili was so excited to step outside our Galilee Green offices to take this video of the first big rain of the season.

After Sukkot we begin mentioning rain in our daily prayers. The time between Sukkot and Pesach is the rainy season in Israel when we need it for our crops.

Technically, we would ASK for rain (rather than just mention it) in our prayers each day immediately after Sukkot/Simchat Torah, but we traditionally (actually for the last 3000 years) waited two weeks after Sukkot ended to allow time for the pilgrims to leave Jerusalem and return to their homes after the festival. That way they wouldn’t get bogged down in the mud! The rain is a blessing and everyone in the Land is excited about it after 6 months of no rain at all.
