There is nothing really Israeli about this recipe other than we made it in Israel. But whenever I post a recipe on our Galilee Green Facebook Page with the word “Israel or Israeli” in it, it attracts huge numbers of anti-Israel trolls.
I’d rather have them waste their time on our page that is followed by staunch Israel supporters than on some other page where they might influence people with their lies and hate.
Anyway my wife Sarah Eliana came up with this recipe based on what we had available in the fridge and adding some of our favorite spices. It was a huge hit at our home. I hope you will enjoy it too. Thank you so much for your steadfast support.
Feel free to adapt this recipe with your own ingredients and spices and let us know what special combinations you come up with!
Ginger Beef & Mushroom Cabbage Rolls
Ingredients
- 6 tbsp Galilee Green olive oil (GGOO)
- 6 large whole cabbage leaves – washed
- 6 large portobello mushrooms – diced
- 5 cloves of garlic – minced
- 1 tomato – diced
- 2 sprigs of green onion – chopped
- 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- garlic powde3r & pepper to taste
- 1/4 pound lean chopped steak or ground beef
Directions:
- In a frying pan, heat the oil over medium heat.
- Sauté the onion and tomato for 3 min.
- Add the crushed garlic, sauté for 2 min.
- Add the mushrooms and stir. Wait for the water released by the vegetables to evaporate a little and add the meat, seasonings and soy sauce.
- Wait until the meat is well fried. Set aside the mixture.
- In a pot put water to boil. Once hot, add the cabbage leaves and make sure they are submerged.
- After a few minutes, test if they bend easily but without being too soft. It means they are ready. Take them out and drain them.
- Open the cabbage leaves one by one, adding enough mushroom and meat mixture to the center of the leaf.
- Fold the thickest part first, then the sides and roll the remaining side well.
- In a frying pan with a little hot oil over medium heat, place the rolls, put a little pepper and garlic powder on top and turn when they are golden.
