In North America most fruits are available pretty much all year round.
In Israel we eat fruit seasonally. This means that I have been transplanted to the days of my childhood when I could hardly wait for the beginning of summer to eat these fruits. The peaches are found in the Galilee markets in June and the berries in July and August.
One of my favorite desserts is a peach and berry cobbler. It is a blessing to have a dessert item that is both comforting and has the total YUM factor. It is the perfect dish to finish off our Shabbat meal. The sweetness comes from the fruit itself. There is no sugar in the fruit. It can almost be called healthy. 🙂
Ingredients:
Fruit
- 6 peaches cored and sliced thinly
- 4 dark plums cored and sliced thinly
- ½ a pint of blueberries
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of Galilee Green Olive Oil
Topping
- ⅔ cup of whole wheat flour
- ⅔ cup of oats
- ⅓ cup of Galilee Green Olive Oil
- ¾ cup brown sugar
Directions:
- Coat bottom of a 9″ deep dish baking pan with 1 tsp olive oil
- Add fruit and sprinkle with cinnamon
- Mix topping and spread over the fruit
- Bake at 350F/180C until done
- Serve warm
All types of fruit will be wonderful. Make your own combination.

It is healthy-for a dessert! Love it. Will try it when I can get good peaches.
