We had dinner at a friend’s house the other night. She made a delicious homemade grilled salmon accompanied by white rice made in the microwave from a prepackaged bag. That was a bit of a disappointment. It tasted like, well, prepackaged white rice from a bag.
It reminded me that there is a quick and fool proof way to make healthy, flavorful brown rice, from scratch, in 35 minutes. It’s so delicious, it tastes like a chef prepared it. Galilee Green Olive Oil lends its distinctive flavor and is an important ingredient for that gourmet taste.
My secret hack is using a wide deep frying pan with a glass top. The rice cooks evenly and I can watch inside to make sure the water has all evaporated without picking up the top. Because the rice has to stay covered the whole time it’s cooking. No peaking!
This curry rice is a great accompaniment to just about anything!

Easy Curry Rice
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Galilee Green Olive Oil (GGOO)
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup brown rice
Directions
- Heat GGOO on a medium flame in a wide frying pan with a glass top.
- Add the spices and salt and stir into the heated GGOO, for about 1 minute until you smell the delicious curry flavor.
- Pour in the rice and mix it with the spices.
- Cook, stirring constantly, until the rice begins to crackle and toast. This takes about minutes.
- Pour the water over the rice and stir occasionally as it comes to a boil.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 35 minutes until water is completely absorbed.
- Leave the top on for 5 minutes after you’ve turned off the flame.
- Lift the lid and stir.
Your curry rice is ready to serve!
