Healthy Pizza Idea
On the holiday of Shavuot there is a tradition to eat dairy meals, so why not healthy pizza?
There are many reasons for this, but one reason that resonates with me is that we eat dairy because the Torah describes Israel as the “land flowing with milk and honey” (Exodus 3:8)
Also, Torah is likened to milk, as the verse says, “Like honey and milk [the Torah] lies under your tongue” (Song of Songs 4:11). Just as milk has the ability to fully sustain the body of a human being (i.e. a nursing baby), so too the Torah provides all the “spiritual nourishment” necessary for the human soul.
Keeping both ideas in mind, I thought to myself why not make healthy pizza this holiday? … but pizza with a twist! Instead of the usual dough crust, try a cauliflower crust and add your favorite toppings!
Here’s the recipe and a really simple way to prepare the crust :
Healthy Pizza with Cauliflower Crust
Ingredients:
- 1 head cauliflower, stalk removed
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella
- ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
- ½ teaspoon oregano
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 eggs lightly beaten
- 2 ½ tablespoons of Galilee Green Olive Oil
- Toppings – pizza sauce, shredded cheese and hot pepper flakes and whatever your heart desires
Directions:
- Steam cauliflower florets in a vegetable steamer for 10 minutes, until they are soft, but not mushy
- Place the cauliflower in a bowl and allow to cool for a 5 minutes
- Use a fork and a knife to cut up the cauliflower into very small pieces
- Add cheeses, salt, pepper, oregano, garlic powder, and mix
- Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and eggs and mix well
- Grease a round baking pan with a ½ tablespoon of olive oil
- Pour the crust into the round greased pan and pat down very well
- Sprinkle the remaining olive oil on top of the crust
- Bake crust on 425F/225C for 10-15 minutes until the crust is golden
- Add your favorite pizza toppings and bake for another 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted
This yummy recipe reheats really well and you can use it as a side dish to serve 6 satisfied guests. ENJOY!!
