We’ve already shown you how to make your own homemade hummus

Now we’d like to share with you a very Israeli appetizer that you can make for your Shabbat table. This ground-beef hummus platter also makes a great filling meal for a weekday dinner.

In Israel we have special restaurants called “Hummusia” where they serve all kinds of hummus. Each menu item is a different variation on hummus and it will be served on a plate or in a bowl accompanied by steaming hot fresh pita breads.

Ingredients – Serves 4

  • 2 cups homemade Galilee Green Hummus
  • 1 lb. of medium ground beef
  • 1 large chopped onion
  • 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms

  • ½ cup dry red wine
  • ¾ teaspoon cumin
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt (if not using Koshered meat)
  • 1 – 2 tablespoons of Galilee Green Olive Oil for sprinkling
  • ½ teaspoon chopped green onions

Directions

  • Brown ground meat in a frying pan on low to medium heat
  • Continue to break the meat up to keep it crumbled and not clumpy
  • Once meat is no longer pink, set aside
  • Sauté onions and garlic until softened in Galilee Green Olive Oil
  • Add mushrooms and continue sautéing until the mushrooms are softened
  • Add spices
  • Add red wine/li>
  • Cover for 3 minutes to continuing softening
  • Add back the browned meat and stir together for 2 – 3 minutes
  • Lay hummus on a beautiful serving dish and place meat preparation in the center of the warmed Galilee Green Hummus.

I have had this dish many years ago. My mother worked with a lady who was from Israel and occasionally she would make this dish for us and fresh pita to eat it with. I can’t wait to make it myself!
