One of our favorite snacks as part of our healthy Galilee diet is homemade popcorn!
Bobby Bennie of Spring Hill, Florida is one of the most enthusiastic chefs in our Galilee Green Subscriber Family.
According to Bobby, “You’re probably not going to find a simpler recipe than this one for Galilee Green Popcorn!” Stovetop popcorn is so much healthier and economical than microwaved popcorn.
One of the yummy secrets of movie theater popcorn is that they smother it with lots of oil. Imagine how amazing your popcorn will taste when you use our delicately flavored extra virgin olive oil!
Here’s how Bobby pops his corn kernels (which he stores in a mason jar).
- Cover the bottom of a 2 quart pot with about an 1/8 inch of Galilee Green olive oil
- Add a 1/3 cup of popping corn
- Sprinkle some sea salt and your favorite seasoning over the kernels
- Cover with a vented lid and set to medium, or medium low (for me that’s between 4 & 5 on an 11 setting burner).
Some seasoning will burn as the popcorn finishes popping but I’ve not had it ruin the flavor yet… Enjoy!
At our home in Israel, we like to spice it up a bit. We don’t pop the kernels with the spices. After it is popped and still warm, we sprinkle it with coarse black pepper and hot paprika. Then drizzle a bit more Galilee Green Olive Oil over the popcorn and toss and mix it up. It’s finger licking good!
By the way, when we’re having a crowd for Shabbat lunch, we’ll often bring out a couple of giant bowls of homemade popcorn instead of desert. It’s a real crowd pleaser and encourages shmoozing!
