We really love Asian food.
There are lots of vegetables and the combination of sweet/salty/spicy flavors is wonderful.
Some of our favorite dishes to prepare at home are eggrolls and sushi.
Recently we attended our friend’s son’s Bar Mitzvah celebration at the famous Pagoda Restaurant in Tiberias.
The food was amazing and inspired us to try something new.
I used to have a housemate from mainland China when I was at University named Joe Lee.
One day, another housemate brought some kosher “Chinese” food back with him from Toronto.
The only thing that Joe recognized as being authentically Chinese was the steamed white rice LOL!
This Beef/Broccoli dish is an Americian/Chinese favorite. Enjoy.
Ingredients:
Sauce
- 2 tbsp tapioca flour
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tsp silan (date honey) or regular honey
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 1 1/2 tbsp light soy
- 1 tbsp red wine
- 1/8 tsp Chinese five spice powder (we mixed our own with – cinnamon, cloves, pepper, fennel, cardomam
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/8 tsp black pepper
Stir Fry
- 2 tablespoons Galilee Green Olive Oil (GGOO)
- 12 oz/360g of beef fillet (any meat you would BBQ will do – we used Cabrito – young goat meat)
- 2 tablespoons fresh ginger – finely chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic – minced
- 4 – 5 cups broccoli florets (lightly steamed) or we used frozen
- 1 cup water
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Directions:
- Place the tapioca flour (or cornflour) and water in a bowl and then mix. Add the remaining sauce ingredients and mix.
- Slice the beef into 1/4″ thick slices. Place the beef and 2 tbsp of the Sauce into a bowl and set aside.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add beef and spread out, leave for 1 minute until browned.
- Stir beef for 10 seconds, then add garlic and ginger. Stir for another 30 seconds or until beef is no longer pink.
- Pour Sauce and water into the skillet and quickly mix.
- When the sauce starts bubbling, add broccoli. Stir to coat the broccoli in Sauce, then let it simmer for 1 minute or until Sauce is thickened.
- Remove from heat immediately and serve over rice or quinoa. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
Enjoy with eggrolls and Chinese Shiitake Mushroom Soup!
Stir Fry is always better with Galilee Green Olive Oil
